Categories, age groups and rules
The competition is open to musicians of all nationalities. The preliminary round is judged from video; successful entrants are invited to the live final in Tokyo.

When the time limit is reached a bell sounds and the performance ends. The jury scores the artistry and technique shown within the allotted time, so an unfinished piece does not lower your score — you may perform any work you love, even a long one.
Preliminary round scoring
The preliminary round has two award levels only.
Distinction Award — 80 points or above
Qualifies for the live final in Tokyo.
Outstanding Award — 79 points or below
Does not advance to the final.
Results are emailed to entrants five working days after the video is uploaded.
